Greenhouse of Walled Lake dispensary owner Jerry Millen is grateful that Michigan’s cannabis industry was deemed essential during the COVID-19 lockdown. Now, he is planning to give back to the community who has supported them.
The dispensary, in partnership with five industry suppliers, is “adopting” 10 families in need this holiday season, supplying them with $1,000 worth of food and gifts each. Out of the 10 families, three will be from Walled Lake, selected by city officials.
“Since this year has been so bad for so many, I wanted us to help even more, so I decided to donate $5,000 in food and gifts for five families. I also reached out to others in the cannabis industry and challenged them to step up and help make a difference and they did. I was able to get five of my partners…to match my donation with another $5,000 for gifts. So now we will be able to help 10 families this Christmas,” Millen said. “I am continuing to challenge those in the cannabis industry to help step up and make a difference. We were deemed essential during the lockdown; it’s time to give back to those who were hit hardest.”
To be considered for the holiday giveback program, Walled Lake residents should email [email protected], giving their name and contact information of the family in need, along with a short description of the family and their situation. The remaining seven slots are open to any family in Michigan who is in need. Those outside of Walled Lake can go to greenhousemi.com to register a family.
“We have been in the Walled Lake community for over seven years now and I feel it is very important to help our community first as they allowed us to open a business in their city, now we are in a position to give back,” Millen said.
Families will be selected at random from the entries provided. Millen says they will be “judged on their level of need to make sure we can help as many families make it through this tough year.”
Entries are being accepted now through December 4. Winners will be announced December 7, with gifts delivered to families the week of December 14.
